Chiropractic Care

Dr. Chiungos detects and manages subluxation and its harmful effects. Subluxation is a Chiropractic term that describes the pain, swelling and loss of function that occurs when a joint in the body is misaligned, compressed or strained. It also offers a treatment methodology with which to restore motion and function and reduce or eliminate pain and swelling.

Your first appointment will include an intake, history gathering and examination. The Doctor will take what you say and let it guide him during the examination as he attempts to locate the possible causes of your discomfort. The examination often includes posture, foot assessment, gait assessment, vital signs, neurologic tests, orthopedic maneuvers, as well as specific chiropractic tests and maneuvers. When needed, Dr. Chiungos refers to both Lowell General Hospital and CDI – MRI of Chelmsford when he feels advanced imaging is necessary to further pinpoint the problem.

A report of findings will be performed with each patient. The Doctor will review your Imaging studies, if ordered ,and report your examination findings. He promises to explain how his findings relate to your problems. A care plan will be tailored to your specific needs; it may start with Chiropractic or may be a mix of Chiropractic and modalities such as Laser Therapy, HakoMed Electrotherapy or spinal decompression. The choice to a course of Treatment or referral to another provider is a decision between you and Dr. Chiungos

The Primary Technique Used in Your Care

Dr. Chiungos is trained and practiced in several forms of General and Advanced Chiropractic Assessments. In over two decades of continued study and practice he has honed his assessment and adjustment skills. The one he uses most frequently in practice is Sacral Occipital Technique (SOT):

Sacro Occipital Technique®. SOT is credited to Major Bertrand DeJarnette; An engineer and Doctor of both Osteopathy and Chiropractic. He described an assessment and treatment methodology of the spine based upon research, observation, practice and publication. He described fundamental relationships of the sacrum, spine and cranium. He further described how the function of arms and legs could influence this primary sacral cranial relationship. A distinction of SOT is the use of predictable body indicators; signs or signals assessed on the body that are used to know If, when and where to treat. The absence or presence of indicators after treatment also signals whether further treatment is necessary avoiding unnecessary treatment. The system also employs specific methods of correction above and beyond the adjustment; wedge shaped blocks placed strategically under the hips and pelvis, seated traction techniques for the Intervertebral disc, gentle influence of the hands to restore proper relationships of the cranium and arm and leg manual techniques are among just a few. His experience and assessment tools guide him to the use of the correct technique delivered in the appropriate therapeutic dosage to the correct areas to maximize response and safety.
